The History of the Devil

The History of the Devil takes place at the Devil's parole hearing, held in a remote court where a jury must decide whether Lucifer deserves to be released from his exile and allowed to return to Heaven. To determine his fate, witnesses are called to testify about the Devil's actions throughout history, and the court is transported through a series of episodes drawn from mythology, religion, and human history. Figures such as Dante, Jesus Christ, Lilith, and others appear as evidence is presented for and against the Devil.

As the trial unfolds, the prosecution argues that the Devil has been responsible for humanity's suffering and corruption, while the defense contends that he has merely served as a convenient scapegoat for mankind's own failings. Through the testimony and flashbacks, the court is forced to confront questions of free will, guilt, temptation, and the nature of evil itself as the Devil demands a final judgment on his place in creation.
