Vincent Yu

Vincent Yu is a Canadian novelist whose fiction explores human relationships, moral choice, and the unpredictable consequences of crisis. Before publishing his first novel, he built a career in the publishing industry, working as a sales manager for W. W. Norton and Liveright. His short fiction has appeared in numerous literary journals, including Prairie Schooner, StoryQuarterly, Ninth Letter, and Able Muse, and he received the 2021 Ashley Bourne Prize for Fiction from Ploughshares. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Yu made his literary debut with Seek Immediate Shelter, a novel inspired by the 2018 false ballistic missile alert in Hawaii. The story follows the lives of residents in a small Massachusetts town whose split-second decisions during what they believe to be their final moments continue to shape their lives long after the crisis has passed. Praised for its emotionally nuanced characters and thoughtful examination of guilt, forgiveness, and redemption, the novel established Yu as a promising new voice in contemporary literary fiction.
