Ichiro Kishimi is a Japanese philosopher, author, and counselor best known for introducing the ideas of Alfred Adler to a global audience through accessible works on psychology and personal growth. Born in Kyoto, Japan, he studied philosophy at Kyoto University, where he developed a particular interest in classical Greek philosophy. Although he left the university's doctoral program before completing his degree, he continued his independent study of philosophy while establishing a counseling practice. Since the late 1980s, he has specialized in Adlerian psychology, becoming one of Japan's foremost authorities on the subject. His work combines philosophical inquiry with practical psychological guidance, emphasizing personal responsibility, interpersonal relationships, and the pursuit of a meaningful life.

Kishimi gained international recognition in 2013 with The Courage to Be Disliked, co-authored with Fumitake Koga. Written as a dialogue between a philosopher and a young man, the book presents the core principles of Adlerian psychology in an approachable format. It became a publishing phenomenon, selling millions of copies worldwide and being translated into dozens of languages. He and Koga later collaborated on The Courage to Be Happy, which expands upon the ideas introduced in their first book, and The Courage to Be Yourself, continuing their exploration of Adler's philosophy and its application to everyday life. Beyond these internationally successful works, Kishimi has authored numerous books on philosophy, psychology, and education for Japanese readers.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential contemporary interpreters of Adlerian psychology, Kishimi has helped introduce Adler's ideas to a new generation of readers around the world. His writing encourages self-acceptance, personal freedom, and healthier relationships, making complex philosophical concepts accessible through clear language and practical examples.
