Sang Young Park

Sang Young Park is a South Korean novelist, essayist, and television writer whose work has become a defining voice in contemporary Korean queer literature. Born in Daegu, he studied French literature and journalism at Sungkyunkwan University before completing graduate studies in creative writing at Dongguk University. Prior to becoming a full-time author, he worked as a magazine editor, copywriter, and marketing consultant, experiences that inform his sharp observations of modern urban life and relationships.

Park made his literary debut after winning the 2016 Munhakdongne New Writer's Award for his short story Searching for Paris Hilton. He gained international recognition with Love in the Big City, a novel that follows the friendships, romances, and personal struggles of a young gay man navigating life in Seoul. The novel became an international bestseller, was translated into more than twenty languages, and was longlisted for the International Booker Prize. It has since been adapted into both a feature film and a television series.

Widely regarded as one of South Korea's most influential contemporary writers, Park's fiction blends humor, vulnerability, and emotional honesty while exploring themes of identity, loneliness, love, and belonging. His work has helped bring modern Korean queer literature to a global readership and has earned numerous literary awards in Korea and abroad.
